If you haven't had a chance to take our very brief survey, please take a moment to give us your feedback before the next meeting on February 4!
Here is the link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/S87XHTP
I'll present the results of the survey at the meeting and it would be great to have input from all our members. Please post a comment below if you have any trouble with the link or completing the survey and I'll get back to you.
In addition to discussing plans for the year, we are hoping to have a member give a short demo. (Gina, that is a subtle hint that we want you to give us an improv demo :-).
I will be bringing a giant bag of scraps to give away to any takers--perfect for trying out some improv piecing. And, as always, there will be time for show and tell. We want to see what you're making!
We hope to see you on February 4!

SEW DAY LOCATION CHANGED!Just wanted to send out a quick reminder that this weekend's Sew Day for GLAM will be from 1pm-5pm at the TOWER ROAD library NOT Milhopper library where we meet for our monthly meetings. Milhopper was booked so the Sew Day will be at the Tower Road Library instead.
The address is:

Vanessa will bring the materials to make tablet sleeves if you'd like to help. Bring whatever
projects you are working on for GLAM. Also bring your sewing machine, and extension cord
if you have one and your basic quilting supplies. If you have a portable ironing mat and iron
bring those as well.
See you tomorrow!

In case you have missed the last few meetings, Gainesville Modern Quilters has lots of activities coming up. A retreat in May and participation in the GLAM Craft Show in December. Don't forget that we meet the first Wednesday of every month. Our next meeting is Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at the Millhopper Branch of the Alachua County Public Library, Room A at 7 pm. Don't forget to bring show and tell.
Please bring your $70 deposit to reserve your spot for our retreat in May (see post early this month for details). This is a joint retreat with the Central Florida Modern Quilt Guild. Space is limited, so don't delay.
We should have lots of fun with like minded quilters.
In preparation for the GLAM Craft Show, December 7, 2014, we have reserved meeting space for sew days to make gifts to sell in our booth. This is a fund raiser for the guild so that we can keep dues low and be able to have some operating funds. For each item that is sold, the maker will receive one half of the proceeds to help compensate for time and materials. The other half will go into the guild's treasury. While everyone is encouraged to make gifts at home, we will be teaching how to make different gifts at the sew days and will let you know what materials to bring. Everyone is encouraged to come and make whatever they would like.
All sew days are on Sunday:
09/28/14 - Millhopper Library (Room A) - 1 - 5 pm
10/05/14 - Millhopper Library (Room A) - 1 - 5 pm
11/02/14 - Tower Road Library (meeting room) - 1 - 5 pm
11/09/14 - JoAnn's Fabric & Crafts (Classroom) 10 am - 7 pm
11/16/14 - JoAnn's Fabric & Crafts (Classroom) 10 am - 7 pm
11/23/14 - JoAnn's Fabric & Crafts (Classroom) 10 am - 7 pm
Come when you can and for as long as you can. Bring your sewing machine and basic sewing supplies. Irons will be provided.
Here is a list of items that have been suggested for gift items. We will have quilts on display, but really don't expect to sell any of them, as it seems everyone is looking for inexpensive gifts.
Appliqued Baby Onsies
Whole Cloth Baby Quilts
Flannel Baby Blankets
Napkins (Fringed and Hemmed)
Crochet/Knit Wash Cloths
Little Girl Skirts (2 - 3 T and 4 - 5 T)
Crochet flower pins
Crochet head bands
If you can think of any other gift ideas, please let us know. In keeping with the guild's purpose, please use modern fabrics. This is a great opportunity for you to learn from fellow guild members and have fun at the same time. I hope to see YOU at one of the sew days.

Right now we are looking at the weekend of May 7-10, 2015. To reserve the space we would need to act fast so we are looking at collecting deposits at our September 3, 2014 meeting. If so, the deposit would likely be around $70. If you are interested please leave a comment below so we can get a head count and see if we can meet the minimum. If we can make this work it is sure to be a fabulous time!
