I'm back with another blog post a few weeks in advance of next month's meeting because I want everyone to have plenty of time to gather their materials and do the prep work before we show up on May 2nd ready for the Jelly Roll Race! If you don't know what I'm talking about... then you need to come out and partake in the fun. We are all going to be making an entire quilt top next meeting!
If you don't believe me I encourage you to come take the challenge for yourself!
We will be making a nice lap sized quilt top like this one that Jean Rosell showed us at her trunk show in January. You can add borders like she did or leave it as is. The finished quilt top will finish ~ 48” x 64”.
So, are you up for the challenge?
Great! Here's what you gotta bring....
- extension cord
- working sewing machine with at least 4-5 bobbins already wound
- 1 Jelly Roll or 40-42 strips of fabric that measure 2.5" x width of fabric sewn together into one
continuous strip that emasures approx. 1600 inches! (read below for directions)
- Pins
- Drinks or snacks- you may get hungry!
- Drinks or snacks- you may get hungry!
We are having you sew all your strips together before the meeting because that's the part that takes the most. We want everyone to leave the meeting with a finished quilt to!
To sew your individual strips together you have two different options. Click HERE to watch a quickie video for two ways to do sew your strips together:
Once you've sewn a suuuuuper long strip made up of all your jelly roll or scrap strips, drop 'em in a baggie and bring them with your sewing machine to the next meeting. Can't wait to see everyone there. Now all you need to do is start looking for the perfect Jelly Roll or jump into your scrap stash and pull out some strips!
